Jazz vocals are a multifaceted art form, as it incorporates techniques from many other vocal styles and offers performers vast opportunities for experimentation, reinterpretation, discovery, and expressing individuality.

At the “Solomriya” School, experienced and highly qualified teachers offer engaging and accessible lessons in the art of jazz vocals and improvisation for both children (starting from a very young age) and adults.

Training in jazz vocals begins with the basics of voice control: freeing the vocal apparatus, mastering resonators (chest, head, and mix), and working on breathing and diaphragm control.

Next, we explore the core component of jazz vocals – rhythm. We study the “swing” technique, note durations, and various rhythmic patterns.

At the following stages, the focus shifts to mastering jazz vocal techniques, melismas, and phrasing.

The study of “scat” (the language of jazz improvisation) is conducted using Bob Stoloff’s method and by listening to renowned scat masters like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and others.

In our lessons, we also explore the key jazz styles: swing, blues, gospel, ballad, Latin jazz, bossa nova, bebop, hard bop, jazz waltz, funk, cool jazz, smooth jazz, as well as their derivatives: rhythm and blues (R’n’B), soul, neo-soul, acid jazz, post-bop, gypsy jazz (jazz manouche), jazz mugham, fusion, modal jazz, jazz rap, and many more.

We cover the structure of jazz musical compositions, essential jazz chords, and the forms of jazz pieces.

Of course, great attention is given to improvisation training: applying scat techniques, practicing improvisation in key jazz styles and in the pieces performed by students, and studying modes.

The program also includes stage performance skills: microphone techniques, stage movement, elements of acting, and studio practice, which involves recording a song in a professional recording studio and learning the basics of studio work, as well as backup vocal skills.

Additionally, we help you find your unique singing style and create your own jazz compositions.
